Monday Must-Haves
So today I’ve decided to share with you some of my favorite ideas or products that I absolutely love. Some may be old, some may be new, but they all have made my life better!
1) Microwave Magic – This first idea is really what made me want to start up Monday Must-Haves. I read about this a few months ago - I wish I could give the source credit but I don’t remember, it was probably from a Family Circle magazine as I’m always trying to catch up on my magazine reading and they have great information. Anyway I read this tip, tried it and have since been deliriously happy and often thought I should share this great new knowledge with others! It has turned a sometimes dreadful chore of cleaning the microwave into a cinch! It works for anything I tell you. This past week I overflowed oatmeal, then used the microwave a few more times before finally taking the time to clean it, and this little solution made clean up a breeze! This may be old news to some of you but here it is – 1 cup vinegar + 1 cup water, microwave for about 3 ½ minutes and then leave in microwave for a few minutes longer before wiping down. The steam from the vinegar/water mixture reduces microwave messes down to nothing and you can easily wipe it away! Some stubborn stains may need a bit more scrubbing, but it’s much healthier then filling your microwave with chemicals (which I always worry somehow get mixed in with my food in the leftover fumes) not to mention easier on the wallet as well. Try it – you’ll LOVE it!
2) Canon Rebel XS – My new passion and obsession, my seven month old baby if you will! My first camera in 6th grade had 110 film and I loved it, but my dream has always been to have a SLR (single-lens-reflex) camera, especially a Canon Rebel. Finally that dream has been realized! The entry-level SLR of the Canon line, the XS takes amazing photos and has incredible options (some I’m sure I don’t even know yet) for it’s very affordable price (relatively speaking for a SLR). This new baby of mine has provided me hours and HOURS of fun and THOUSANDS of captured moments of my dear sweet children and family and friends. For me – this is priceless and a definite must-have!
3) Library Card – Something we learn about as children (I sure hope they’re still teaching about libraries and haven’t given in to teaching that everything can be found on the Web) – a valuable and exciting adventure awaits every time you step into a library. I have always had a deep love for books and was called “anti-social” numerous times for having my head in a book, but books can provide so much knowledge, entertainment, pleasure and growth – and with a library card all of this can come free! I enjoy taking my children to our local library for “story time” and checking out books for them and books for me. I hope they’ll grow to love and appreciate books as much as I do!
So that wraps up my first Monday Must-Haves. I hope you enjoyed it and I’d love to hear some of your Must-Haves – leave a comment and share!
I love your Monday Must Haves!
ReplyDeleteI had heard of the microwave idea but had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder. Mine is in desperate need of a cleaning!!
I'm hoping for a SLR camera for Christmas (but that's probably wishful thinking). B had to give his "work" one to the PR department. Apparently they NEEDED it more than me :D
And we go to the library every two weeks! :D My girls love it and it definitely saves money!
We are two peas in a pod! Love my SLR (although I'm not as skilled as you), library card & story time too! I've always boiled water in the microwave to clean it. I have never used vinegar though. I'm going to try it :)
ReplyDeleteI a similar way of cleaning the microwave. Except I use lemon juice. About a 1/4c to 1c water. I usually aproximate it. This way the house smells like lemony. (I hate the smell of vinegar!)
ReplyDeleteI got a new digital SLR for Christmas last year and I am just now getting around to using it to it's full potential. I have an old Fuji. I love the beautiful pictures it takes.
I def. feel you on the library card love! I love my library, like love it! My husband was in the military and we moved a lot. The first thing I would do (even before unpacking) in a new town is find the library. When my daughter gets her book club flyers every month she circles all the book she wants- to check out of the library!
A Monday-Must Have for me (even though it's Tuesday) is my Swiffer Sweeper vac. We have hardwood/tile floors and a dog. Which means I have dog hair in every corner of my home. The Swiffer gets it all. It takes me 15 min to run it over my floors and I am good for the day. I even made some reusable pads for it so I can save a bit of money.
Hoping you get your new SLR Heather Jo!
ReplyDeleteAlicia - I know you're not a fan of vinegar, so you might want to check out Elizabeth's comment about the lemon!
Elizabeth - welcome to my blog! Thanks for the tip about the lemon and the Swiffer Vac - I have two dogs also and will be checking this out!
