From the Mouth of an Almost 3 Year Old

Last night daddy was mowing the lawn and McGee was watching from inside at the sliding glass door and said, "Daddy did a good job. He's a good man!" I'm so glad our boy is already learning the value of hard work and the traits of a good man. He also spent yesterday helping Papa sort and crush cans and bottles to take to recycle, sweep the patio, and turnover dirt before planting some flowers for mommy. When grandma was making us quick peanut butter and honey sandwiches he said, "Grandma, can I help?" Pouring the honey was his special job and he did it wonderfully.

While eating breakfast this morning, daddy and McGee had a funny interchange.

Daddy: McGee, would you like to go to a baseball game with daddy?
McGee: In your car? (he's always obsessed with cars/trucks)
Daddy: Yes in my car. Would you like to go with me?
McGee: Can we drive in your car?
Daddy: Yes, do you want to go?
McGee: Ummm, yes, we can take your car, but you can't drive too fast because I don't want the policeman to give you a ticket.

So off they are going to go to a baseball game for some of Kyle's students. It's so nice for them to have these daddy and me days. :)

While we are on the subject of cars, nearly everyday, at least a 1/2 dozen times a day when we are in the car, McGee and I have some version of this conversation:

McGee: Where's daddy?
Mommy: At work.
McGee: What's he doing at work?
Mommy: Teaching.
McGee: Why?
Mommy: Because that's what he does. He's a teacher.
McGee: He's not a teacher, he's a daddy.

Also lately he's we've been having this conversation a lot:

McGee: Maybe papa's coming today.
Mommy: You think papa's coming today? Umm, I don't think so.
McGee: Yes I think Papa Gary's coming today and bringing daddy's vroom, vroom car.

*A little background - daddy's "vromm, vroom car" is his 1970 Plymouth Satellite Sebring. It was grammy and papa's 1st car when they got married and it's been daddy's since he worked on rebuilding the engine in high school. Unfortunately it's not the most economical so when gas prices shot through the roof last Fall and Uncle Mike was selling his perfect condition Toyota Camry, daddy bought the commuter car and the "vroom, vroom car" went up to Papa and Grammy's house (lot). :)

Conversation continued:

Mommy: Maybe, but I don't think Papa's coming down today.
McGee: But daddy needs his vroom, vroom car. He needs to wash it and I need to drive it. (a LONG time ago daddy was washing the cars and let McGee sit on his lap while he backed the car out of the driveway and parked it on the street - apparently this made a HUGE impression on our little car-happy boy!)
